News Release - November 4, 2005 MOOSE JAW YOUTH RECOGNIZED FOR CREATIVE WORK
A Moose Jaw youth has received an award in a unique Saskatchewan centennial contest.
Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan (ISC) has presented Matt Cook, a student at Central Collegiate, with a $200 award for his essay titled, Memories of Round Lake. The essay vividly depicts a beautiful place in Saskatchewan and explains how it impacted the writer's life. As part of celebrating Saskatchewan's centennial year, ISC is encouraging youth participation in Centennial events and is providing a scholarship to one Grade 12 student in each of 19 schools that volunteered to be part of the program. The initiative asked students to write an essay under the broad topic of the land in Saskatchewan. Essays can cover any number of subjects or aspects – open to the creativity of the author - ranging from a family homestead, an interesting landmark, a location where an historic event took place, or any other subject connected to the land in our province. The program fosters the creativity of students and builds an enhanced awareness of Saskatchewan. The contest targeted students in and around communities in which ISC's Customer Service Centres are located. Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan is the provincial crown corporation responsible for the administration of provincial land titles, surveys, mapping and geographic information services as well as the personal property registry. The province's land titles registry, now an arm of ISC, has been involved in granting and titling land in Saskatchewan since 1886. All winning essays in ISC's Grade 12 centennial Essay contests have been posted to a special ISC Centennial website at www.centennial.isc.ca. -30- For More Information, Contact:
