NORTH BATTLEFORD EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM RECEIVES 2007 SPIRIT AWARD

Health Minister and The Battlefords MLA Len Taylor on behalf of Community Resources Minister Kevin Yates today presented the Prairie Employment Program of North Battleford with a 2007 Spirit Award, in recognition of the employment support services it provides to people with disabilities.

Those services include employment assessments and counselling, vocational planning, case management, job placement and on-the-job mentoring.

"Over the past 30 years, the Prairie Employment Program has provided exceptional employment services to the residents of The Battlefords, including people with physical, learning and cognitive disabilities," Taylor said. "This award reflects the tremendous dedication of the staff of the Prairie Employment Program to serving their clients and communities."

The Spirit Award is presented annually in three categories to community-based organizations (CBOs) that have demonstrated an ability to make a difference in people's lives through exceptional service and superior organizational and service-delivery practices. CBOs that received funding from Community Resources, or its agency, the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, within the previous two years are eligible for the award.

This year, the Prairie Employment Program won in the People with Disabilities Category, the Canwood Housing Authority won in the Housing Category, and Hunger in Moose Jaw won in the Children, Youth and Families Category.

A list of nominees and a summary of their work is available on the Community Resources web site at www.cr.gov.sk.ca.
