BRAD WALL BRINGS ENERGY OPPORTUNITIES TO COUNCIL OF THE FEDERATION MEETING

Premier Brad Wall said Saskatchewan will be highlighting the positive contributions it can make in helping Canada become internationally recognized for its leadership in sustainable energy development at the Council of the Federation meeting in Quebec City this week.

"Our province is at the forefront of some exciting technological developments that hold significant potential for addressing key environmental priorities and we-as we do when we travel anywhere-will be telling that Saskatchewan story in Quebec City," Wall said. "We all need to focus on immediate action to reduce or capture CO2 and that is exactly what is happening in Saskatchewan and Alberta."

Wall said he would be defending the economic interests of Saskatchewan families and businesses against proposals that would simply redistribute wealth and economic opportunity from the west to central Canada, under the guise of environmental policy.

"Canadians need to know that Saskatchewan is enthusiastically committed to helping the nation solidify its international position as a leader in CO2 capture and storage, as well as clean coal technology," Wall said. "And we have demonstrated that commitment with the clean coal project announced for the Boundary Dam Power Station.

"Canadians need to hear about the largest international collaborative project on carbon capture and storage now underway in Weyburn. They need to hear about the expanded commitment we've made to innovation and research in our budget through additional support for the Petroleum Technology Research Centre at the University of Regina. They need to hear about the $1.4 billion government-industry partnership for a clean coal-carbon capture demonstration plant at Boundary Dam."

Wall said he and Premier Stelmach will be highlighting these points during discussions with other Premiers.
