LLOYDMINSTER AND AREA BENEFITS FROM PROVINCIAL INVESTMENT IN CAPITAL PROJECTS

Highway twinning, a significant investment in Lloydminster's multiplex, and upgrades to schools in the area are among the many initiatives underway to improve the quality of life for families and young people in the Lloydminster area.

"Saskatchewan's economy is booming and people in the Lloydminster area are sharing in those benefits," Advanced Education and Employment Minister Warren McCall said while visiting residents and businesses in the Border City. "We have been able to provide funding for a variety of capital projects that will enhance the quality of life for people living in the area, improve upon the business climate and give people even more reason to live, work and build their future in Saskatchewan."

In recent months, the province has dedicated $5 million to provide assistance to rural municipalities in the area so they can better address road maintenance costs due to high volumes of heavy truck traffic. Primary grid roads are also receiving a facelift. The roofs at three schools are being replaced, and the province has made significant investments to upgrade water and sewer systems.

"The twinning of Highway 16 to complete the North Battleford to Lloydminster corridor will also be finished soon, to ensure it will be safer for motorists and more efficient for shippers," McCall said.

"This year's infrastructure budget is the largest ever. Investments in our highways, cultural and recreational facilities, housing projects, health care and municipal infrastructure will ensure that communities province-wide are in the best position to capitalize on the many opportunities being created by our booming economy."
