FEES INCREASING FOR MARRIAGE LICENSE AND MARRIAGE COMMISSIONER SERVICES

The Government of Saskatchewan has introduced changes to The Marriage Regulations, 1997. The changes will increase the fee for a marriage licence and the fee for a marriage commissioner.

"The proposed change is for marriage licence issuers and marriage commissioners," Justice Minister Don Morgan said. "It will not increase revenue for government."

The cost of a marriage license will increase from $50 to $60. Marriage commissioner fees will increase from $50 to $75. The changes will allow a marriage commissioner to charge an extra $25 if the couple wants the commissioner to attend a rehearsal or other meeting. The total cost of a wedding, using a marriage commissioner, will increase from $100 to $135. If the couple wants the commissioner to attend a rehearsal the total is $160. The fee increase will take effect January 1, 2011.

The Marriage Regulations, 1997 have not been changed since they came into effect.
