News Release - May 19, 2005 MEDAL PRESENTATIONS TO DISTINGUISHED INDIVIDUALS
Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal to His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh at the Legislative Building during the official welcome to Canada and Saskatchewan Wednesday evening.
The commemorative medal recognizes and honours the important role individuals have played in the development of the province. In the evening, the Lieutenant Governor also presented the medal to individuals who were recognized for their involvement in the visit of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh and for creating public awareness of the monarchy in Canada. Among the recipients are household members from Buckingham Palace, the Chief of the Defence Staff, the Commissioner of the RCMP, the Mayor of Lumsden, General Manager of Hotel Saskatchewan, artist Roger Jerome and federal and provincial royal visit co-ordinators. "Her Majesty plays a vital constitutional and ceremonial role in Canada. She is also a hardworking and devoted Sovereign," Haverstock said. "Today's recipients are most deserving of this honour for promoting an understanding of the important work of our Queen and for facilitating visits by the Royal Family to Saskatchewan." Sir Robin Janvrin, Private Secretary to The Queen, also received the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award from Premier Lorne Calvert. The Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals from outside Saskatchewan who have made significant contributions to the well-being of the province and its people. "It is a pleasure to present the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award to Sir Robin Janvrin," Calvert said. "He first visited Saskatchewan with Her Majesty in 1987 and has continued to advise and assist Saskatchewan in its relations with The Queen and the Royal Family. Sir Robin has also been instrumental in our educational program on our Constitutional Monarchy." -30- For More Information, Contact:
