NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR VOLUNTEER MEDAL

Saskatchewan residents have until October 18 to nominate individuals for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.

The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

"Communities across Saskatchewan are blessed with dedicated volunteers," Lieutenant Governor Gordon Barnhart said. "The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal is an ideal opportunity to thank our most generous citizens and to encourage others to follow their outstanding example of service."

Any Canadian citizen who is a current or former long term resident of Saskatchewan is eligible for nomination. The only exceptions are presently serving members of Parliament or the Legislature and members of the judiciary. Groups or organizations cannot be nominated. Posthumous nominations can not be accepted.

Since the Medal's inception in 1995, 104 recipients have received the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. A full list of previous recipients can be found online.

People may call toll-free 1-877-427-5505 for information and nomination forms or visit www.gr.gov.sk.ca/protocol.
