SASKATCHEWAN HOUSING HONOURS VOLUNTEERS

Seven Saskatchewan volunteers were honoured for more than a quarter century of service to their local housing authorities at a luncheon in Regina today.

Hosted by the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, these seven people have dedicated a remarkable combined total of 210 years of volunteer service to their respective housing authorities. The honorees are: Hildegarde Willen from Lake Lenore with 25 years of volunteer service; Victor Franks from Ogema, Cameron McKie from Foam Lake, Ken Oberkirsch from Radville, Brian Watson from Dinsmore, and Blanche Weir from Perdue with 30 years of volunteer service each; and Michael Lalache from Wynyard for 35 years of volunteer service.

"These seven outstanding volunteers have made their communities better places to live," Community Resources Minister Buckley Belanger said. "It is because of people like them and the many other volunteers in the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation network that Saskatchewan is recognized as a leader in Canada for social housing."

Saskatchewan has a network of 280 housing authorities served by more than 1,500 volunteer members across the province. The Province of Saskatchewan appoints these volunteers and Saskatchewan Housing Corporation regularly recognizes them for their long service.
