SASKATCHEWAN SALUTES YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AND ENTREPRENEURS

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed June 4-10 "Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs Week in Saskatchewan" celebrating the success of young energetic entrepreneurs and business people, working together to promote business and opportunity in Saskatchewan.

Leading celebrations during the week is the Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs Inc.(SYPE), an organization that helps young Saskatchewan business people and professionals recognize the opportunities the province has to offer.

"By supporting and encouraging the young professionals and entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan, we are building our economic stability of tomorrow - today," Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "Saskatchewan's success is built on a foundation of businesses formed out of entrepreneurial spirit and initiative. Our youth are an invaluable resource integral to building and maintaining a diversified and strong economy."

SYPE has a membership in excess of 550 dedicated youth who want to stay and prosper in Saskatchewan. Evidence shows that youth who are connected with individuals and corporations in the province are more likely to stay in the province. Chapters have been established in Saskatoon, Regina, Estevan, Weyburn, North Battleford, and most recently in Prince Albert and Moose Jaw.

"SYPE has grown from 40 members in 1999, to six chapters and more than 500 members province-wide," Saskatchewan Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs Inc. President Janea Bellay said. "Our members choose Saskatchewan as their home, their place of business, and a place where they can grow their careers and families. Through SYPE, we provide professional, fun networking opportunities for young professionals and entrepreneurs to belong to their community and meet other like-minded individuals. These are the next leaders of Saskatchewan. We are so pleased the Government of Saskatchewan recognizes this week and our business-building community."

The highlight of the week is the 7th Annual SYPE Silver Spades Awards Gala, which honours a Young Professional of Saskatchewan; a Young Entrepreneur of Northern Saskatchewan and Young Entrepreneur of Southern Saskatchewan; the Peddle Award, honouring the individual that is pushing or "peddling" SYPE forward in our province; and the Ace of Spades Award, given to an established business leader who promotes opportunity to young people through mentorship and also encourages the growth and success of youth-led organizations like SYPE.
