SASKATCHEWAN FOCUSES ON HEALTH AND SAFETY DURING NAOSH WEEK

Making safety and health a lifelong commitment is the focus of this year's provincial launch of the North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week from May 4-10.

"Our new government places an emphasis on protecting the health and safety of Saskatchewan people," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "NAOSH is an opportunity to promote health and safety as an important and vibrant part of workplace culture across the province."

The theme for this year's NAOSH is "Safety and Health: A Commitment for Life! Start Today! Live it Every Day!" The week will be observed in jurisdictions within Canada, the United States and Mexico. The theme reflects the need for continual focus on the consequences of hazards and the proactive measures required to minimize the probability of illness, injury or death.

"Every work-related illness, injury or death is a tragedy that could have been prevented," Norris said. "It is important that all people in the province take the time to work safe and recognize that healthy and safe work practices are a vital part of a secure and prosperous future."

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour partners with the Government of Canada, Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, Saskatchewan Safety Council, Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board, Saskatchewan Safety Associations, SaskTel and SaskPower to promote NAOSH Week in the province.
