News Release - September 25, 2012 CENTENNIAL ART SHOW NOW ON DISPLAY IN CUMBERLAND GALLERYThe Saskatchewan Legislative Building Centennial Art Show, An Archival Celebration, is now open for viewing in the Cumberland Gallery and Gift Shop. More than 150 photographs are featured in this art show and highlight the Legislative Building history, construction, significant events and interior and exterior views of the building. An Archival Celebration features building artifacts such as tools, old drawings and original furniture. All of the contents from the 1909 time capsule are included in the Centennial Art Show and McGill University has provided a wooden cutaway model of the Legislative Building.
"A century later, the Legislative Building as a symbol of democracy is still the centrepiece of government representing our collective values, a connection to our heritage and a principal tourism destination for our capital," Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Kevin Doherty said. "I encourage everyone to take in this exhibit that explores our history and looks to the future - a future in Saskatchewan that is incredibly bright, as our province's population and economy continue to grow." An Archival Celebration was made possible due to the contributions of Saskatchewan Archives and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. Members of the public are invited to view the exhibit: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Sunday and Holidays, 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. The Centennial Art Show will be on display until November 26, 2012. The Centennial Art Show is a part of the province's year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Legislative Building which will culminate with a public event on October 11, 2012.
