LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR HAVERSTOCK TO CONTINUE IN OFFICE UNTIL 2006

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock will remain serving the people of Saskatchewan during the centennial year. Prime Minister Paul Martin has approved the province's request for continuance of Her Honour as Lieutenant Governor until early in 2006.

"I am pleased that Dr. Haverstock has accepted the invitation to continue her role for another year," Calvert said. "She has done an outstanding job as The Queen's representative in the province, and as Lieutenant Governor she will play a key role in our year-long centennial celebrations."

Under the constitution, Lieutenant Governors are appointed by the federal government for a minimum of five years, but there is no fixed term of office.

Lynda Haverstock was sworn in as Saskatchewan's nineteenth Lieutenant Governor on February 21st, 2000.
