HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICE PERSONNEL

Lieutenant Governor Gordon Barnhart presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal in Regina today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.

Recipients receiving the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today included:

• Municipal police from Regina and Moose Jaw;

• RCMP from Regina

• Fire protection personnel from Regina, Southey, Yorkton, Moose Jaw, Kipling and Estevan;

• A Correction worker from Regina;

• Environment personnel from Regina and Preeceville;

• Wascana Centre Police Service personnel from Regina

• Commissionaires from Regina and Swift Current; and

• A Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation officer from Yorkton.

"It is important to recognize individuals who have dedicated much of their lives to protect the people and property of our province," Provincial Secretary Glenn Hagel said. "I am pleased that we have the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal as a way to honour people for the work they do to help make a difference and a better life for everyone in the province."

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002. The medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
