SASKATCHEWAN PROCLAIMS RESERVE FORCES DAY

Today Provincial Military Liaison D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert proclaimed September 24, 2011, as Reserve Forces Day in Saskatchewan, to formally recognize the contributions of our everyday citizens who voluntarily devote their time to military service.

"It is with great pleasure that I make this proclamation today," Huyghebeart said. "The brave men and women who make up the reserve forces in our province are truly deserving of the honour. Their actions have served to better not only our own province and country, but the entire world and for that I thank them."

Reserve Forces have been increasingly active in recent years, playing an ever increasing role in maintaining peace and security.

In Canada, reservists have responded to shorter-term domestic emergencies such as floods and forest fires, and they have assisted with search and rescue missions and relief operations. They also participate in cultural events, parades and festivals across Canada. Internationally, they have served on Canadian Forces missions in the Middle East, Cyprus, Bosnia, Haiti, Africa and Afghanistan.
