REQUEST FOR SASKSMART INNOVATIONS FUND PROPOSALS

The Government of Saskatchewan is providing $770,000 through the SaskSmart Innovations Fund to support Saskatchewan communities in initiating and implementing sustainable literacy plans.

"Literacy is a foundation for full participation in society," Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ken Krawetz said. "It enriches people's lives by giving them the tools to achieve better employment, provide for their family and engage in their community. I encourage community organizations to work together to explore the possibility of applying for a SaskSmart Innovations Fund grant to address your region's unique, local literacy challenges and opportunities."

The SaskSmart Innovations Fund assists communities in developing and implementing local Community Literacy Plans for family and workplace literacy. Funding of up to $70,000 is available for individual proposals. Organizations that are not yet ready to submit a full community literacy plan can apply for up to $10,000 to conduct literacy needs assessments and inventories in preparation for submitting a full literacy plan proposal in 2011-12.

The Ministry of Education's Literacy Office will be accepting proposals until July 5, 2010. For more information about the SaskSmart Innovations Fund, visit the website at www.education.gov.sk.ca/literacy/funding/sasksmart-innovations-fund.
