News Release - February 26, 2003 INQUEST TO BE HELD IN DEATH OF 16-YEAR-OLD FEMALE
An inquest into the death of a 16-year-old female will be held April 21st to 24th, 2003, at 10:00 am at the Court of Queen's Bench, 64 Ominica Street West, Moose Jaw.
The 16-year-old female died while being held in custody at the Moose Jaw Police Service cells on August 14th, 2002. Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, requires an inquest to be held into the death of any person who dies while an inmate in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility. In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the medical cause of the death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
