News Release - October 19, 2010 ENVIRONMENT MINISTERS TO DISCUSS WATER AND AIR QUALITYEnvironment Minister Dustin Duncan is attending the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment meeting in St. John's, Newfoundland on October 20, 2010, where discussions will revolve around a common strategy for managing air and water for human and environmental health. "Clean air and water define the quality of our lives and the integrity of our ecosystems," Duncan said. "Our government is committed to ensuring that Saskatchewan people have a secure supply of clean water and that our air quality standards can be sustained well into the future. This requires coordinated planning and intergovernmental co-operation." The federal, provincial and territorial environment ministers will also be discussing compostable products and packaging as environmental issues that are of concern to all Canadians. The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment meets at least once a year to discuss national environmental priorities and to determine work to be carried out. Current strategic priorities include: a harmonized regulatory framework for the management of municipal wastewater effluents; information on water quality and quantity; and common tools to assist in adaptation to climate change. -30- For more information, contact:
