News Release - April 28, 2006 CELEBRATING MUSIC MONDAY
In celebration of Music Monday, school bands, community and professional organizations, and ensembles from across Canada are taking their instruments and their love of music outdoors at 11:00 a.m. on Monday to perform the same piece of music at the same time.
"Music Monday is a simple, yet powerful, exercise that illustrates music's ability to unite people," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. "I encourage anyone who can to take a few moments on Monday to step outside and join their fellow Canadians in experiencing for themselves the powerful and uniting force of music." The Saskatchewan Band Association, in conjunction with numerous band and music associations from the province and across the country, is spearheading the initiative, which is in its second year. There are approximately 60 Saskatchewan schools, and 1,200 Canadian schools, registered to participate.
