NORTH BATTLEFORD RECEIVES $700,000 TO CONTINUE TARGETED POLICE INITIATIVES

Corrections and Policing, through the Ministry of Justice, contributed $700,000 to the City of North Battleford for seven police officers who conduct comprehensive investigations and work on a number of proactive, community-based policing initiatives in order to help reduce crime.

The Government of Saskatchewan’s Targeted Police Initiatives is responding to community crime-related priorities through the Enhanced Community Policing Program.

“We’re pleased to continue North Battleford’s funding for Targeted Police Initiatives to reduce crime,” Cut Knife-Turtleford MLA Larry Doke said on behalf of Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell.  “North Battleford’s effort exemplifies how this program can help address the needs of residents, and how targeting specific community needs to reduce crime demonstrates partnership and a dedication to community betterment.”

“The funding provided by the province for the Enhanced Community Policing Program greatly strengthens North Battleford Municipal Detachment’s ability to provide proactive crime reduction policing programs to our community,” North Battleford Municipal Detachment Staff Sergeant Phil Wilson said.  “The seven currently-funded officers increase police visibility, police presence, increase our ability to conduct comprehensive investigations and help provide staff for meaningful crime reduction initiatives.”

This annual funding through the Targeted Police Initiatives provides grants that support police-based efforts to reduce crime, victimization and the prevention and intervention of at-risk populations.
