STC HELPS YOUNG PEOPLE SEE THE PROVINCE DURING CENTENNIAL

The Saskatchewan Transportation Corporation (STC) unveiled a program today to allow Saskatchewan youth to see their province during the Centennial year. The Celebrate Saskatchewan Youth Pass is an excursion pass for summer travel during 2005.

For a one-time cost of $75, Saskatchewan residents, between the ages of 15 and 25, have unlimited access to STC bus service throughout the months of June, July and August.

"It's important, during the celebration of our 100 years as a province, that our young people have the opportunity to see as much of the province as they can," Minister responsible for STC Maynard Sonntag said. "We want to have as many young people as possible sample our province's beauty during our centennial."

The passes will be available starting Friday, May 20th, at any STC depot or agency throughout the province. Starting June 1st, they can be used as often as desired on any routes STC travels in the province.

"The Celebrate Saskatchewan Youth Pass is an affordable way for young people to enjoy travelling around Saskatchewan," Sonntag said. "A regular return ticket, Regina to Prince Albert, with the standard student discount of 10 per cent, is $86.60. A young person would only have to use the pass once for such a trip and the pass will have paid for itself for the rest of the summer."

"Our centennial is a time to celebrate our history but it's also a celebration of our future and today's youth will shape and define that future," Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Chair and Moose Jaw North MLA Glenn Hagel said. "I am pleased that STC is providing young people with this wonderful opportunity to explore our province and to learn more about the people and places of Saskatchewan."

STC serves 275 communities throughout Saskatchewan, travelling in excess of three million miles a year.
