SASKATCHEWAN GOVERNMENT INVESTING IN EDUCATION FOR THE FUTURE

Students in Saskatoon have much to celebrate with today's announcement of the approval for six major capital projects in the Saskatoon Public School Division and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Separate School Division. Additional funding for planning was also announced.

"School capital projects are a priority for this government. We are committed to ensuring all Saskatchewan students have a safe, modern, well-equipped learning environment," Learning Minister Judy Junor said. "As part of our long-term K-12 capital strategy, these projects demonstrate our continued commitment to work with school divisions to provide quality education for our students."

The provincial government is providing the Saskatoon Public School Division with funding for:

• phase two renovations for Buena Vista School (approximately $1.5
million);
• renovations for W.P. Bate Community School (approximately $1.1
million);
• renovations for Nutana Collegiate (approximately $2.7 million);
• a new west side collegiate; and
• a new northeast collegiate (approximately $9 million).

St. Paul's Roman Catholic Separate School Division will receive government funding for a new west side high school and for planning renovations to E.D. Feehan High School.

Planning studies will be conducted to determine the joint-use options, scope and costs of the new west side projects and the E.D. Feehan High School renovation. The provincial government and the two school divisions will share the cost of these studies.

"It is the government's expectation that the planning will involve a broad consultative process that engages both school divisions, the City of Saskatoon and other potential partners to determine the best long-term solution for the students and citizens of Saskatoon," Junor said. "Undoubtedly, these announcements are very welcome news for students, parents and educators in Saskatoon."

"This announcement takes us one step closer to achieving our goal of addressing our highest-priority school construction projects," Junor said. "By investing in the education of our young people we are investing in the future of Saskatchewan."
