GREENWATER LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK CELEBRATES SASKATCHEWAN CENTENNIAL

New and improved trails and campgrounds are now open at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park. Environment Minister David Forbes enjoyed a performance by Saskatchewan Express while participating in a plaque unveiling at the park yesterday.

The plaque recognizes the province's $345,000 centenary fund investment in the construction of a new interpretive trail complete with signage, upgrades to the Highbush interpretive trail, a new change house and the upgrading of electrification at the campgrounds.

"We are pleased and proud to dedicate these facilities to the people of Saskatchewan. These improvements will ensure park visitors will experience a safe and enjoyable park visit," Forbes said. "We can look back on Saskatchewan's past with pride and a sense of accomplishment and forward with confidence and optimism for what the future holds for our province and our people."

The old wooden structure was replaced with a concrete block barrier-free change house complete with shower, washroom, sink facilities and an exterior rinse-off shower. The Highbush intrepretive trail was upgraded with new surface and signage and a new interpretive trail was constructed, complete with signage.

Through the four-year, $120 million Centenary Fund program, the parks program received $6.8 million to complete important capital projects for Saskatchewan's centennial.

Saskatchewan's provincial parks celebrate the province's diverse natural and cultural heritage and are an important legacy for future generations. Each park highlights specific natural or historic features and offers a range of recreational and educational opportunities.
