News Release - May 25, 2005 CORONER'S REPORT MAKES SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
The Chief Coroner of Saskatchewan released his final report and recommendations today concerning the death of a 10-year-old Regina girl who died after being crushed by an automated parking gate last May.
Recommendations have been made that have ramifications for the automated door industry across Canada. In total, five recommendations were made to six organizations involved in the automated door industry. "The death of any child is a horrible tragedy," Chief Coroner Kent Stewart said. "It is even more tragic, though, when that death could have been prevented." The recommendations consist of reviewing the operation, safety standards, and maintenance of automated gates across the country. "These recommendations have been made in order to help prevent similar deaths in the future and improve overall public safety," Stewart added. "It is my hope that the recommendations are taken seriously and acted upon by the various agencies to which they are directed." -30- For More Information, Contact:
