EAGLECHILD INQUEST

An inquest into the death of Abraham Eaglechild will be held March 21st-23rd, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the Prince Albert Queen's Bench Courthouse, 1800 Central Avenue.

Mr. Eaglechild, aged 50 years, died August 28th, 2004, while in remand at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre.

Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, states that an inquest is to be held when the death of an inmate occurs in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility unless the death was due to natural causes and was not preventable.

In addition to establishing who died, when and where the individual died and the medical cause of death, the coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.

Coroner Alma Wiebe of Saskatoon will preside at the inquest.
