After an inter-agency wildlife investigation by Saskatchewan and Yukon conservation officers, Jeffrey Sereda was convicted on two counts under The Saskatchewan Wildlife Act for unlawfully importing a black bear and a grizzly bear. Both bear hides have been forfeited to the Crown. In addition to the fine, Sereda will also receive a one-year hunting suspension. "Anyone who is hunting or planning to hunt in another jurisdiction needs to know and abide by the rules of that jurisdiction before transporting and importing any wildlife into Saskatchewan," Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment Director of Enforcement and Compliance Ken Aube said. "Proper import permits help ensure that animals hunted in other jurisdictions were lawfully hunted there." Anyone who is aware of or suspects environmental, wildlife, fisheries or other natural resource violations is encouraged to report them to any Ministry of Environment office or call the province's toll-free TIP line at 1-800-667-7561 or #5555 for SaskTel cell phone subscribers. -30- For more information, contact:
