SASKPOWER AND SCIENCE CENTRE OPEN CLIMATE CHANGE EXHIBIT

A travelling exhibit now open at the Saskatchewan Science Centre will help students and families learn more about the issue of climate change. A corporate sponsorship of $18,000 by SaskPower has helped bring The Climate Change Show travelling exhibit - which includes a multimedia theatre - to the Science Centre.

"SaskPower's support for educational programs like this climate change exhibit is important if we are to engage young people - the future leaders of our province - in thinking about solutions to a challenge that affects all of us," Finance Minister Harry Van Mulligen said on behalf of Minister responsible for SaskPower Frank Quennell. "This project complements our government's commitment to develop made-in-Saskatchewan solutions that address climate change and create a green and prosperous province."

At the heart of The Climate Change Show is a multimedia theatre - featuring animated sheep wearing rubber boots - which outlines the challenge of climate change in a fun and humorous way.

"The Climate Change Show is a one-of-a-kind experience filled with magnificent environmental effects, recreating weather and climate changes right inside the theatre, including a spectacular thunderstorm," Saskatchewan Science Centre Board of Directors Chair Scott Manson said.

Exhibits supporting the multimedia theatre are organized into three themes - Understanding the Science, Impacts of a Changing Environment and Living in a Changing World. Using the sheep from the multimedia theatre, the exhibits provide important background on climate change and projections of changes to our landscape that may result.

"Bringing this fun and educational exhibit to Saskatchewan will give Science Centre visitors a chance to learn about the impacts of climate change and how it affects us on a daily basis," Saskatchewan Science Centre Executive Director Scott Langen said.

The multimedia theatre will be at the Science Centre until June 13th; the remainder of the travelling exhibit will stay at the Science Centre until September 6th.

SaskPower support for this travelling exhibit complements the corporation's work on its Green Power Portfolio. This initiative includes a joint venture between SaskPower International and ATCO Power to develop 150 megawatts of wind power in the province, the expansion of the Cypress Wind Power Facility, solicitation of small-scale Environmentally Preferred Power generation projects from the private sector, and community energy efficiency pilot projects.
