PROVINCIAL COURT COMMISSION ESTABLISHED

The 2005 Saskatchewan Provincial Court Commission has been established.

Dan Ish, a Professor of Law and former University of Saskatchewan Dean of Law, and Silas Halyk, a private lawyer with the firm of Halyk Kennedy Knox, have been appointed as Commissioners. Dr. David Barnhard, President of the University of Regina, will sit as the Chair.

Due to constitutional requirements, the Commission is established every three years under the Provincial Court Act, in order to conduct an independent, objective review of salaries, benefits, and pensions for Provincial Court Judges. The Commission will submit its report by December 2005. Any changes to salaries and benefits will be effective April 11th, 2006.
