CELEBRATING TOURISM AWARENESS WEEK

The province is celebrating the strength and vibrancy of its tourism industry during Tourism Awareness Week, May 30th – June 5th.

A variety of activities will take place province-wide aimed at raising awareness of the industry and reminding people of tourism's many contributions to the social and economic well-being of the province.

"Saskatchewan has an incredibly rich tourism industry and its benefits are seen throughout the province," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "It supports individuals, families and communities through the jobs it creates and the revenue it generates, and it enhances the quality of life that we all enjoy here in Saskatchewan."

Special activities planned for Tourism Awareness Week include the launch of a photo contest for residents and visitors alike; an RV tour by members of Tourism Saskatchewan to promote tourism awareness around the province; and Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council recognition dinners saluting individuals who have achieved national certification in tourism occupations.

Tourism Saskatchewan staff will also be on hand June 2nd at the Regina Farmer's Market to distribute travel guides and answer travel questions. Nationally certified travel counsellors will be at Regina's Southland Mall June 3rd – 5th to help vacationers plan their Saskatchewan holiday.

"Tourism Awareness Week is an opportunity to increase awareness about the many unique travel opportunities available right here in Saskatchewan," Tourism Saskatchewan President and CEO Roy Anderson said. "We're excited about recent national and international market responses to Saskatchewan as a travel destination, and this week we hope to enhance our own residents' knowledge, interest and participation in tourism's many events, attractions and opportunities."

Tourism generates nearly $1.4 billion in revenue for Saskatchewan each year and directly supports more than 22,000 jobs in the province.
