SOMERTON INQUEST

An inquest into the death of Nathanial Terra Somerton will be held Friday,

January 12th at 9:00 am at the Provincial Court House, 1815 Smith Street,

Regina.



The 48-year-old died January 5th, 2000, at a Corrections Canada community

residential facility in Regina. Somerton was serving the remaining third of an

18 year sentence at the time of his death.



Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, requires an inquest be held when an

inmate dies in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility.



In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the medical

cause of death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar

deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.



The presiding coroner will be Mrs. Maureen Stinnen.
