STUDENT MURAL SHOWCASED AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE

Art students from Campbell Collegiate in Regina unveiled the newest addition at Government House today - a mural they designed and created for the Education Room. Located on the lower level of Government House, the room is used by educators, visitors, groups and students for learning and creative activities.

"Working with youth is a priority for Government House. We are pleased that the art students at Campbell Collegiate have partnered with us to revitalize Government House and create this masterpiece," Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Dustin Duncan said. "Not only does it showcase the significance of this historic building, but the talent of Saskatchewan art students."

The mural project is the result of a community partnership between Government House and the high school, led by art teacher Ladd Fogarty. After visiting Government House in September, the art students presented their proposed design for a new interactive mural which has been reproduced on full-scale panels in the Education Room.

"It has been a great opportunity for a group of students to collaborate on such a fun and playful project," Fogarty said. "The experience they gained in working on this mural has given them a great appreciation for the entire process. Watching the development of the project from a thumbnail sketch to a complete painting over a six-month period was a first time experience for all the students involved."

The mural depicts the historic building, gardens, pathways, trees and scenes from various events held at Government House. The frame of the mural is comprised of giant puzzle pieces; some that open to reveal further illustration.

This partnership is part of Government House's revitalization program to renew their services to offer more tour options and give visitors new and exciting ways to explore and enjoy the National Historic Site and a Provincial Heritage Property.
