CHILDREN'S SUMMER PROGRAM RECEIVES FUNDS

The Qu'Appelle Valley Recreation Association will be launching its Mobile Playground Program this summer with the help of $2,000 from the provincial government through the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF).

"The program will help to make this an unforgettable summer for children by providing them with access to summer fun activities, recreation and active living," Government Relations Minister Ron Osika said on behalf of Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joanne Crofford. "Summer programs that are geared toward young people and that are delivered by organizations within our vibrant communities are what help to make Saskatchewan a good place to live, work and play."

The Mobile Playground Program is a summer activities program that will be delivered to children ages five to 10 in the Melville area starting July 2nd. The program will be offered in the nine communities of Melville, Abernethy, Grayson, MacNutt, Ituna, Killaly, Gerald, Balcarres and Spy Hill. Organized activities will include arts and crafts, field trips, recreational games and general summer activities.

"The Mobile Playground Program will provide kids with the opportunity to take part in summer activities. The kids will love it and so, too, will the parents," Qu'Appelle Valley Recreation Association Secretary Treasurer Jo-Ann Bernhardt said. "The CIF funding will help to make this program a success."

The CIF was established by the provincial government in 1997 to return a portion of casino profits to communities. Since its inception, the fund has provided more than 2,300 community groups with a total of almost $13.5 million.
