News Release - February 9, 2004 HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICES PERSONNEL
Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 23 recipients at the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 cumulative years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.
Recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today include RCMP members from Swift Current and Lumsden; municipal police from Weyburn; fire protection personnel from Dysart, Moose Jaw, Milestone, Estevan, and Swift Current; and Highways and Transportation Traffic Officers from Moose Jaw and Swift Current. "The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal allows us to honour the courageous men and women who make our lives more safe and secure in Saskatchewan," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "Our protective services personnel are making a difference and improving the quality of life for all of us in this province." The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002. The medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
