News Release - September 16, 2003 WEST NILE VIRUS UPDATE
There are 64 new probable and confirmed cases of clinical illness due to West Nile Virus in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of cases to 283.
"Although the peak time for acquiring the disease has passed, Saskatchewan residents are reminded to take precautions if they do see mosquitoes while outside," Chief Medical Health Officer for Saskatchewan Dr. Ross Findlater said. "Mosquitoes that carry West Nile Virus are much less active in the cool weather Saskatchewan has been experiencing lately." The number of reported probable and confirmed humans with West Nile Virus is expected to rise in the coming weeks as Provincial Laboratory test results become available from cases acquired in late August and early September.
