News Release - June 24, 2004 VIRTUAL MUSEUM CELEBRATES THE HISTORY OF POWER IN SASKATCHEWAN
A complete history of electricity in Saskatchewan is now just a mouse click away at SaskPower's virtual Power Museum, available through the corporation's web site.
Created to mark SaskPower's 75th anniversary, the Power Museum offers a comprehensive look at the development of Saskatchewan's electrical system and tells the story of the evolution of SaskPower – the province's largest Crown corporation. The virtual museum also includes PowerPlanet, an area designed especially for children. "SaskPower and its employees have played an important role in the development of our province, and will continue to be an essential part of Saskatchewan's green and prosperous economy," Minister responsible for SaskPower Frank Quennell said. "The corporation's remarkable accomplishments throughout its 75-year history – which are so well documented in the Power Museum – remind us of the pioneering spirit of Saskatchewan people, which we will celebrate during our province's Centennial in 2005." "As well as tracing the remarkable history of electrification in Saskatchewan, this new virtual museum pays tribute to the many individuals who played significant roles in the development of our corporation," President and CEO of SaskPower John Wright said. "It is through their foresight, ingenuity and dedication that we are able to provide cost-effective, safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible power to the people of Saskatchewan today." Visitors to the museum can test their knowledge by taking part in the History Challenge, and be entered in a weekly draw for a cast iron model replica of an original SaskPower service truck. A new question will appear on the web site each week until December 2004. The Power Museum can be found at www.saskpower.com/pm. -30- For More Information, Contact:
