News Release - March 19, 2010 COMPANIES PLEAD GUILTY TO LABOUR STANDARDS VIOLATIONSTwo companies have pled guilty to violations under Saskatchewan's Labour Standards Act. In separate prosecutions, Sibbald Roofing of Moose Jaw and Forever Leather of Regina each pled guilty to failing to provide records under Section 66(c) of the Act. Each company was fined a total of $480. The Labour Standards Branch of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour supports fair and equitable workplace practices through public awareness and enforcement of The Labour Standards Act and Regulations as well as other labour legislation. Wherever necessary, violations will be prosecuted. So far this fiscal year, the Labour Standards Branch has received 2,245 complaints and as a result, conducted 2,028 investigations which identified a total of $1.5 million dollars being owed to employees. In the same time frame, the Branch has had 18 cases for prosecution before the courts; with 14 cases now resulting in successful convictions.
