News Release - February 25, 2004 PROVINCIAL AUDITOR INVITED TO PARTICIPATE FORMALLY IN MACSI REVIEW
The Provincial Auditor, Fred Wendel, is being invited to formally participate in a review of the Metis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan Inc. (MACSI).
Earlier this month, Saskatchewan Health contacted the provincial auditor for his assistance in dealing with the MACSI management review, and provided him with a copy of the report and four years of MACSI financial statements. The health department has had on-going discussions with the auditor on the best way of engaging him in the follow-up work that will be required, including the planned forensic audit. "The auditor has advised us that his normal jurisdiction does not extend to MACSI because it is a third-party, non-profit organization," Health Minister John Nilson said. In order to participate in a formal manner, under his legislation, he requires authorization." "I want his full participation in this review and I want him to be able to comment publicly on the findings. I am taking the appropriate steps under the Provincial Auditor Act to obtain authority for him to participate in this review," Nilson said. -30- For More Information, Contact:
