News Release - November 15, 2004 CROP REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 14TH
Farmers made some harvest progress over the past week, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization's weekly crop report.
Combining progress moved to 96 per cent for the 2004 crop, up from 93 per cent last week. The southwest region remains furthest along at 98 per cent complete – compared with 87 per cent last week. The northwest region is the least advanced with 89 per cent combined. Most grain came off with high moisture content and will need to be dried. Overall crop quality will be below average. Weathering caused the majority of the crop damage during the past week. Game and migrating waterfowl continued to damage crops. There were reports of crop beginning to spoil in storage. Farmers are reminded to continually check stored grain. Farmers made some progress with fall work, including baling, hauling bales, applying fertilizer and chemicals, fixing corrals and fences, moving cattle and picking rocks. Subsoil moisture conditions are good to excellent north of the Yellowhead highway, and in pockets in the southeast and southwest regions. Variable stubble subsoil moisture conditions exist in the central part of the grainbelt. There will be no crop report next week. The final crop report will be released on December 2nd, 2004. -30- For More Information, Contact:
