News Release - September 8, 2006 WANTED: YOUTH LEADERS
The Government of Saskatchewan's Provincial Youth Advisory Committee (PYAC) is looking for new recruits to provide the Government of Saskatchewan with advice and guidance.
"The Provincial Youth Advisory Committee has been invaluable to government in helping us understand what is important to young people and to help us build a youth-friendly province," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. "It is a great opportunity as well as a great responsibility for the young people who sit on the committee as they take on active leadership roles in representing the voice of youth and demonstrating to young people that they can pursue a future right here in Saskatchewan." Since its inception in 2003, PYAC has advised Government on youth attraction and retention, education, leadership, employment and training. "As a committee member I've worked to improve youth employment in Saskatchewan, had my say on regulations for liquor and gaming, contributed to discussions on the future of Saskatchewan's economy and society and participated in many other important policy discussions," PYAC co-chair Mitchell Anderson said. "It has been a wonderful experience. I would encourage any young person interested in improving our province to apply." The committee's make-up is diverse, including members from urban, rural and northern communities as well as First Nations and Métis youth, visible minorities and youth with disabilities. There are 25 positions on the committee with seven vacancies needing to be filled. "The diverse perspectives the committee members bring to the table are the real strengths of the Provincial Youth Advisory Committee," PYAC co-chair Nicole White said. "We have a responsibility to represent the concerns of all Saskatchewan youth, and each of us has something to learn from our fellow members." Saskatchewan residents between the ages of 14 and 29 are encouraged to apply. Application forms are available on www.saskyouth.net. The deadline for application is September 29th. -30- For More Information, Contact:
