2007 LIBRARY EDUCATION BURSARY AWARDED

Kendra Bender from Melville is the successful recipient of the 2007 Library Education Bursary. The annual $5,000 bursary offers funding to a student enrolled or accepted in a Master of Library and Information Science (MLS) program, or equivalent, who will live and work in Saskatchewan for at least two years after graduating.

"I want to congratulate Kendra and applaud young people like her who return to Saskatchewan to build their careers and our province's economy," Education Minister Ken Krawetz said. "I encourage other students to apply for the 2008 bursary and to apply their skills to grow our province's knowledge based economy."

"I am so pleased and grateful to be the 2007 recipient of the Saskatchewan Library Education Bursary," Bender said. "I would like to extend my thanks to the Multitype Library Board, the Saskatchewan Library Association, Saskatchewan Provincial Library and the Ministry of Education for providing such generous funding to library students."

Though Bender is enjoying her studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, she is looking forward to coming home to Saskatchewan. "I can't wait to return to my home province to begin my career as a library and information professional," Bender said.

The bursary was established through the partnership between the Ministry of Education, the Saskatchewan Library Association and the Multitype Library Board, a network of public, special and post-secondary education libraries and other information providers.

"Kendra is a very deserving candidate for the 2007 bursary. We are looking forward to welcoming her back to Saskatchewan within the library community," Saskatchewan Library Association president Amy Rankin said. "Saskatchewan offers many varied and interesting library careers, and we hope that Kendra will enjoy the many opportunities available to her when she returns."

"The Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary is an excellent example of partnerships within our province that strengthens and enriches our communities now and into the future," Multitype Library Board chair Zenon Zuzak said. "We are very pleased to award this year's bursary to Kendra Bender. We wish Kendra all the best in her future endeavours."
