SASKTEL TO EXPAND AND IMPROVE DIGITAL CELLULAR SERVICE IN 39 LOCATIONS

SaskTel today announced that the final phase of its $28 million expansion and improvement program will improve digital cellular service at 31 locations across the province.  An additional $2.4 million will be invested to expand service to eight previously unserved northern communities.  When the current expansion is complete at the end of 2008, SaskTel digital cellular service will be available to more than 96 per cent of the Saskatchewan population, and SaskTel will have invested over $122 million in digital cellular service since 1998.

SaskTel also announced that it now offers Wireless and intermodal number portability.  Wireless and intermodal number portability offers customers who may have switched to other service providers the ability to return to SaskTel for either wireless or wireline service while retaining their current phone number.  Customers in Regina, Saskatoon, North Battleford, Swift Current, Prince Albert, Yorkton and Moose Jaw will be able to port their number immediately.  Wireless and intermodal number portability will be available in other Saskatchewan communities throughout 2007.

“SaskTel already provides unmatched cellular coverage and exceptional call clarity,” Minister responsible for SaskTel Deb Higgins said.  “This latest major expansion reinforces SaskTel’s unwavering commitment to the people of Saskatchewan.”

“SaskTel cellular customers enjoy the best coverage, award-winning customer service, flexible calling plans and more value-packed bundling options than with any other provider,” SaskTel president and CEO Robert Watson said.  “We’re proud to give Saskatchewan people the opportunity to get more from SaskTel.”

Included in the digital cellular expansion are eight previously unserved areas in Northern Saskatchewan: Stanley Mission, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay, Chitek Lake, La Loche West, Pine House, Denare Beach and Deschambault Village.

The 31 improvement locations are: Admiral, Antler, Arborfield, Balcarres, Blackstrap, Cabri, Cando, Corning, Crestwynd, Duck Mountain, Gordon, Hubbard, Hunting Lake, Insinger, Katepwa, Kawacatoose, Langbank, Marriot, Meacham, Pasqua Lake, Quill Lake, Red Earth First Nation, Rhein, Serath, Shaunavon, St. Louis, Sturgeon Lake, Vonda, Wawota, Wishart and Wood Mountain.
