IMPROVING HIGHWAY 10 NEAR MELVILLE

A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 8.9 km of Highway 10 northeast of Melville this construction season.

"We are maintaining our focus on building better highways," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Work on this $1 million resurfacing project is expected to begin in early June 2003 and should be completed by early July. An estimated 20 full-time workers will be needed to complete the project."

The improvement project on Highway 10 will begin from 8 km east to .8 km west of the Junction of Highways 47 and 10. Work is complete on gravel crushing and stockpiling in preparation for construction.

Potzus Paving and Road Maintenance Ltd. of Yorkton was awarded the resurfacing contract.

"Highway 10 has seen an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear on this highway," Wartman said. "We are surfacing a section of the highway, as it has deteriorated over the past number of years. Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is working hard to fix roads across the province to improve driver safety."

The government of Saskatchewan has committed $293 million for building better highways in 2002-2003.

This project was identified in the recent Winter Tender Schedule for Saskatchewan highway work valued at $70.9 million. It highlighted 36 different highway improvement projects, with a length of 490 km that are planned to be completed in the 2003-2004 construction season. The Winter Tender Schedule ensures plans are in place early to provide timely and efficient delivery of highway improvements when construction begins in the spring.
