SASKWATER INTRODUCES UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

SaskWater has signed a five-year $30,000 scholarship agreement with the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. The SaskWater Scholarship Fund will provide one $3000 annual scholarship at each University to deserving diversity candidates pursuing degrees in Engineering or Business.

"The SaskWater Scholarship Fund is unique in that it is available to upper year students who have completed two years toward their degree in good academic standing," Minister responsible for SaskWater Peter Prebble said. "While there are several entrance scholarships for first year students, funding is less accessible in the latter years of pursuing a degree. The SaskWater Scholarship Fund addresses this gap and assists Saskatchewan students in reaching their education goals."

The SaskWater Scholarship Fund will provide support to deserving diversity candidates who are members of Education Equity groups which includes persons of Aboriginal Ancestry, including Status Indian, Metis or Inuit descent; women; persons with disabilities and members of a visible minority. The first scholarships will be awarded in Fall 2004.

Scholarship applications are available on-line at www.saskwater.com. SaskWater, the provincial Crown water utility, provides competitively-priced, quality water and wastewater services. SaskWater also provides a $2100 Centennial Merit Scholarship to a student entering the Water Resource, Engineering Technology Program at SIAST Palliser Campus.
