EMERGENCY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK APRIL 6-12

To recognize and honour the telecommunications professionals who help provide emergency 911 assistance to Saskatchewan citizens, Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister Darryl Hickie has proclaimed the week of April 6-12 as Emergency Telecommunicators Week.

"Emergency Telecommunicators Week provides the opportunity to create public awareness of the important services delivered 24/7 by emergency communications personnel," Hickie said. "Their jobs are vital to connecting emergency services to people in crisis and their decisions affect what are often life-or-death circumstances."

The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials sponsors this special week across Canada. This year marks the sixth year the province has celebrated Emergency Telecommunicators Week and the contributions of Saskatchewan's 911 operators and other emergency service dispatchers from police, fire and Emergency Medical Services who handle emergency calls.

Saskatchewan Corrections, Public Safety and Policing is responsible for SaskTel 911 operations, in partnership with SaskTel who provides technical support.
