News Release - December 29, 2005 NEW RULES FOR ENFORCING PARKING TICKETS
New rules for the enforcement of parking tickets come into force in Saskatchewan on January 1st, 2006.
"These changes streamline procedures for municipalities and will help municipalities reduce the use of costly policing resources to enforce parking offences," Justice Minister Frank Quennell said. "The municipalities also have new tools to collect unpaid parking fines." Under the new system the police will be able to serve a summons for a parking ticket by mail and a municipality will be able to register a lien against a vehicle owned by a person with an outstanding parking fine. The new rules are based on consultations with the cities and the new procedures are modelled on procedures for other, comparable, offences. -30- For More Information, Contact:
