SASKJOBS CONTINUES TO SET RECORDS

Fresh off a record year in 2008, the popular SaskJobs.ca website continues to attract visitors in record numbers.

"Saskatchewan's economy has shown resilience in light of the global economic downturn, and job seekers across Canada have taken notice," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "With more than 5,500 jobs available today on SaskJobs, we continue to see that the opportunities are here for the taking."

January proved to be a record month for SaskJobs.ca, with visits topping the half-million mark for the first time. The site has experienced six consecutive record weeks as momentum continues to build.

On February 10, one day after a Toronto Star article featured Premier Brad Wall, SaskJobs.ca experienced a single-day record for visits at 26,670, surpassing the previous single day mark of 24,016, set during the government's highly successful recruiting mission to Toronto during the fall of 2008. That mission has resulted in at least 74 families having moved from Ontario to Saskatchewan in the past four months.

"Our government has taken action to ensure the ongoing strength of our economy and to create opportunities for Saskatchewan people," Norris said. "Premier Wall's recently announced $500-million ‘economic booster shot' will generate jobs and economic activity across the province - and the largest personal tax cuts in Saskatchewan history will allow more of those earnings to stay in the hands of consumers."

Norris noted that the province remains among the nation's leaders in employment growth, unemployment rate and payroll earnings growth, all indicators of strong labour market demand.
