NEW MEMBERS JOIN PROVINCIAL YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Provincial Youth Advisory Committee welcomed six new members as they met over the weekend at Wanuskewin Heritage Park. The committee is made up of 25 members who advise Government on provincial issues from a youth perspective.

"Our new committee members bring fresh ideas to the table," Provincial Youth Advisory Committee Co-chair Cassie Nesbitt said. "Their diverse backgrounds, along with their leadership experience and commitment to youth issues, will be extremely valuable as we head into a new year."

New members for 2007-2009 are Stephen Bagwell, Seema Grover, Katharine Kirkness, Michael Nemeth, Promi Osman, Tori-Lynn Wanotch and Lacey Norheim.

"My experience as a representative for national and provincial Aboriginal women's organizations has shown me how necessary the youth perspective is," new member Tori-Lynn Wanotch said. "Today's youth are a unique breed of young men and women. We have grown up in an age of rapid change and new technologies."

The committee was established in 2003 to increase communication and collaboration between Saskatchewan's young people and the provincial government. Its diverse make-up of members aged 14-29 includes representation from the North, First Nations and Métis communities, from urban and rural areas, visible minorities and youth with disabilities.

"The Provincial Youth Advisory Committee has been instrumental in the development of government programs and policies that support youth leadership and the building of strong, healthy communities," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Sandra Morin said. "Their hard work and dedication have played an important role in contributing to the quality of life for families and communities in Saskatchewan."
