News Release - June 21, 2004 SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY
The sound of drums and Aboriginal singers and dancers will highlight National Aboriginal Day at celebrations throughout Saskatchewan.
June 21st, the summer solstice, has been designated as National Aboriginal Day, and has been celebrated since 1996. "This is a day when all Canadians can share in the culture of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, as a way of better understanding and respecting each other," Aboriginal Affairs Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Celebrating National Aboriginal Day reminds us what a vibrant and diverse community of peoples we are." Grand Entry ceremonies, children's entertainment, sport demonstrations, dancers, traditional crafts and food are among the activities planned in Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton, Melfort and Duck Lake to celebrate National Aboriginal Day. -30- For More Information, Contact:
