STUDENTS AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS LESTER B. PEARSON SCHOLARSHIPS

Two Saskatchewan students have been awarded full scholarships to attend the world-renowned International Baccalaureate Program at Lester B. Pearson United World College in British Columbia.

Kara Quennell from Aden Bowman Collegiate in Saskatoon received the annual provincial scholarship and will begin the two-year program this fall. The College and Saskatchewan Learning jointly sponsor the scholarship, which is worth over $60,000.

Scott Franks from Churchill Composite High School in La Ronge received the biennial northern scholarship and will also begin the two-year program this fall. Cameco Corporation, Cogema Resources Incorporated, Mudjatik Thyssen Mining Joint Venture and Northern Resource Trucking privately fund this scholarship. Franks is the third and final recipient of the northern scholarship, which was established for a six-year period.

"The International Baccalaureate Program at Lester B. Pearson College is an exceptional program that gives students the opportunity to excel academically, participate in community service activities, meet students and teachers from around the world, and promote international understanding and cooperation," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said. "These exemplary students will be ambassadors for our province during their term at the college and I encourage them to take every advantage of these well-deserved awards."

Lester B. Pearson College is one of 10 United World Colleges established throughout the world. The college is located near Victoria, BC and creates a dynamic international community where 200 young people from over 80 countries live, study and serve the community together. All students attend on full scholarship.
