HOW FAST ARE YOU GOING?

A new sign at the junction of the Trans Canada Highway and Lewvan Drive promotes improved safety by alerting drivers to the speed at which they are traveling through this busy intersection.

A radar speed demonstration has been installed on the eastbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway. The sign shows the drivers their speed and the posted speed limit. The purpose is to promote compliance with the posted speed regime.

"Safety on our roads and highways is a primary concern for both Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation and SGI," Minister Responsible for SGI and Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "This technology will enhance safety and have a calming effect on traffic at this important intersection."

The speed reporting system consists of a solar-powered electronic display pole-mounted sign along the highway. This equipment was made by International Road Dynamics of Saskatoon. Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation and SGI are cost-sharing the $8,000 unit.

Data collected by the unit will allow engineers to better analyze traffic speeds at the intersection. An additional sign on the westbound lanes will also be installed in the coming weeks.
