EMERGENCY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK PROCLAIMED

To recognize and honour the professionals who help to provide emergency 911 and dispatch assistance to people across Saskatchewan, the province has proclaimed the week of April 11-17, 2010, as Emergency Telecommunicators Week.

"Emergency Telecommunicators Week provides us with an opportunity to recognize the valuable contribution of these dedicated emergency communications personnel," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. "The skills of these men and women could mean the difference between life and death to someone in a crisis or dangerous situation."

The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) endorses this special week across Canada. This year marks the eighth year that the province has celebrated Emergency Telecommunicators Week and the contributions of Saskatchewan's 911 operators and other emergency service dispatchers from police, fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) who handle emergency calls.

Saskatchewan Corrections, Public Safety and Policing is responsible for Sask911 operations, in partnership with SaskTel who provides technical support.
